Advantages
The Epson Stylus Photo 2200 is recommended for color or black and
white fine art photography or drawings on matte paper. Matte prints are breathtakingly
beautiful. If your original is sharp, your print will be faithfully reproduced.
The included paper roll holder hangs on the rear of the printer and provides
a convenient way to print and cut borderless prints from rolls 4 to 13 inches
wide. Unlike dye-based inks used in other printers, Epson's pigment inks are
water resistant and archival. The individual cartridges can be replaced independently.
Prints can be expected to last up to 140 years, depending on the paper used.
To acheive professional quality color reproduction, you must install the PIM
(print image matching) plug-in module. The color profiles for all of the compatible
papers do not get installed unless you install PIM. If your digital camera
also has PIM, your prints will match the pictures taken with your camera.
The light black ink (it is actually gray), reproduces neutral tones without
the color cast of other printers. You should not expect any problems with
networking, paper jams or clogged nozzels. The ink cartridges each have a
chip that counts the ink droplets used in order to give you an accurate measure
of ink remaining.
Drawbacks
Prints from roll paper will not lie perfectly flat until they are mounted
or framed. Not a speed demon. Does not do well on glossy
paper as the surface will have strange reflections, or lack of reflection
in different areas. Mac users will not be able to make borderless prints,
and will have difficulty changing between photo black and matte black ink.
It is necessary to turn the computer off and on again between changes on a
